Ten days have now passed since a suicide bomber named Anthony Quinn Walker destroyed a city block in downtown Nashville on Christmas Day.

Since then, the public has not heard much about the bombing from the media or learned much about the bomber from the government. We do know that Walker was a 63-year-old white male. He recently sold off a significant amount of real estate. And someone had reported him to the police for supposedly making explosives in his RV.

So far, we seem to know only one other thing for…

What was the demographic make-up of the grand jury that decided not to indict any police officers for killing Breonna Taylor?

Did Kentucky prosecutors encourage the grand jurors to make the specific decision they settled upon, or did the jurors reach that decision without any prompting?

How much time passed between the moment police officers (supposedly) announced their presence outside Ms. Taylor’s home and the moment they started breaking through her front door?

Who, exactly, was the lone witness who verified the claim that the officers announced themselves?

What was the…

Very few issues unite Americans these days. Whether the topic is police brutality, climate change, COVID-19, or Donald Trump himself, millions of us do not only stand apart. We live in alternate realities.

However, one unexpected issue has finally united many of us across political, religious, and cultural fault lines: Netflix’s Cuties.

Over the past week, the public has used social media to vocally…

Imagine this. You’re a Jewish American college student studying political science at a public university in Arizona. While reviewing the syllabus for your upcoming course on World Politics, you notice that a section of the class will focus on “Jewish Terrorism.”

Although this language disturbs and concerns you, you decide to hope for the best. After all, perhaps your professor will tactfully study violence committed by extremists like Yigal Amir, Baruch Goldstein, or members of the Jewish Defense League through an academic lens.

Unfortunately, your hope was misplaced. Your professor spends…

Political ideologies do not accurately predict all of an individual’s ideals, values, biases or blind spots. American Muslims know this as well as anyone.

Although Islamophobia commonly surfaces in conservative circles, our community knows that anti-Muslim bigotry has also repeatedly manifested in progressive and liberal spaces.

During Monday evening’s segment of The Reidout, MSNBC host Joy Reid likened radicalized Trump supporters to Muslims — a group that’s often the target of rightwing rants, bigotry and racism.

“Leaders [in the Muslim world] talk a…

When Newsweek published an editorial disputing Senator Kamala Harris’ eligibility to serve as vice president, the ensuing public uproar may have marked the very first time that many Americans noticed anything amiss at the once-popular news magazine.

However, reporters and readers who have closely followed Newsweek’s ups-and-downs in recent years were not the least bit surprised by the “birther” attack on…

Over the past month, opponents of the Black Lives Matter movement have gone on the attack against some of the cause’s strongest supporters: American Muslims.

According to a poll conducted back in 2017, the American Muslim community was the faith group most likely to express support for Black Lives Matter. In fact, both African-American Muslims and Muslims of…

In a historic vote last week, the House of Representatives voted in favor of repealing President Trump’s Muslim Ban. Although no one expects the current Senate to pass the legislation, the 233–183 vote in the House marked a major symbolic victory for the American Muslim community.

After years of protesting in the streets and lobbying in the halls of Congress, legislators who represent tens of millions of Americans announced their opposition to perhaps the most visible symbol of anti-Muslim bigotry in our times. …
